Rehabilitaiton After a Stroke / Speech and Language Therapy

A Speech and Language therapist is responsible for assessing, diagnosing and treating communication and/or swallowing difficulties that can sometimes happen following a stroke.

Where there are communication problems the therapist will explain your diagnosis and advise you on ways of improving communication. They will also plan and provide therapy to improve your ability to communicate.

Where there are problems with biting, chewing and swallowing, they will carry out an assessment to check if you are able to eat and drink safely. Their recommendations will depend on how severe the problem is.
